Help build a clearer picture of AI adoption in financial services.

Developed by the FCA in collaboration with CFTE.

The FCA, in collaboration with CFTE, is developing the AI in Finance Observatory to bring together real-world AI use cases and turn them into structured insight for the wider financial services ecosystem.

Why this matters now

AI adoption is growing, but the industry still lacks a clear view of what is happening in practice.

Across financial services, organisations are exploring and deploying AI across customer operations, fraud detection, risk, compliance, supervisory workflows and other areas. But the picture is becoming more complex. Similar applications are often described in different ways, use cases can be difficult to compare, and practical lessons are not always easy to draw from emerging activity.

This makes it harder for firms, innovators, researchers, policymakers and ecosystem organisations to understand where AI is being applied, what problems it is addressing and what themes are emerging across the market.

The AI in Finance Observatory has been created to help address this gap. It will bring together examples of AI use across the financial services ecosystem and translate them into a structured reference to support learning, comparison and informed discussion.

By registering your interest, you can help ensure that meaningful AI work is included in this wider picture.

What is the AI in Finance Observatory?

From experimentation to structured understanding.

The AI in Finance Observatory is a structured learning and insight initiative designed to collect, classify and analyse real-world AI use cases across financial services. It aims to create a more consistent way of understanding where and how AI is being applied across sectors, business functions and workflows.

Turning real implementation into ecosystem insight.

The Observatory will help build a clearer picture of how AI is being used across the financial services ecosystem.

  1. Bring together real-world AI use casesFrom the FCA AI Lab ecosystem and the wider financial services landscape.
  2. Establish consistent reference pointsFor understanding how AI is being applied.
  3. Highlight emerging themesLessons learned and areas for further exploration.
  4. Support accessible insightThrough summaries, analysis and visualisation.
Why contribute

Make your AI work part of the wider industry picture.

Many organisations are already doing meaningful work with AI, but those examples are often only visible within individual teams, firms or networks. By registering your interest, your organisation can help contribute to a shared view of AI adoption in financial services.

  1. Help the ecosystem understand real AI adoptionBeyond high-level discussion.
  2. Contribute practical insightFrom implemented or piloted use cases.
  3. Show where AI is creating valueIn real organisational settings.
  4. Support a more consistent and comparable viewOf AI use across the market.
  5. Be part of a sector initiativeThat turns experimentation into shared understanding.
This is valuable if you want to shape the picture, not just observe it.

Registering your interest is the first step to making implemented AI work visible across the wider ecosystem.

Who should register interest?

We welcome interest from across the financial services ecosystem.

The Observatory is inviting expressions of interest from organisations with knowledge of real AI use cases in financial services or supporting functions. Ecosystem partners are also invited to help share the opportunity with relevant firms, providers and members in their networks.

Financial institutionsBanks, insurers, asset managers and other regulated firms.
Technology providersVendors and platforms supplying AI to the sector.
Fintechs and startupsEmerging applications and implementation models.
ConsultanciesProfessional services firms supporting AI delivery.
Public authoritiesRegulators and supervisors engaging with AI.
Industry bodiesEcosystem organisations and trade associations.
Research organisationsAnd other relevant contributors to the field.
Ecosystem partnersHelp share the opportunity across your network.
Relevant use cases

What counts as a relevant use case?

A relevant use case should involve AI or related technologies in a real organisational setting. It does not need to be fully scaled, but it should have moved beyond a purely conceptual idea. Relevant examples may include pilots, limited production deployments or full production implementations across areas such as:

Customer operationsCustomer operations and engagement.
Fraud and financial crimeFraud detection and financial crime.
Risk managementModelling, monitoring and mitigation.
ComplianceCompliance and regulatory workflows.
Operations automationOperations and workflow automation.
Data and decision supportData analysis and decision support.
Supervisory workflowsSupervisory or monitoring workflows.
AI infrastructureAI infrastructure, tools or enabling technologies.
How the process works

Register your interest first.

At this stage, the first step is not to submit a full use case. The first step is to register your interest. After you register, the Observatory team may follow up with guidance on the type of use cases in scope and how to provide the relevant information.

Register your interest

Complete the short form to start the conversation.

Share brief details

About your organisation and potential use case.

Team review

The Observatory team reviews your expression of interest.

Invitation to expand

Selected contributors may be invited to provide further information.

Review and inclusion

The use case may be reviewed, classified and considered for inclusion.

Confidentiality and permissions

You control what can be shared.

The Observatory recognises that AI use cases may involve sensitive information. Registering interest does not mean that confidential information will be published. If a use case progresses to the next stage, contributors will be able to indicate what information can be public, anonymised or confidential.

Public

Information may be considered for publication where permission has been provided.

Anonymised

The use case may be described without naming the relevant organisation.

Confidential

Information may be shared for review without being published.

Important clarification

Inclusion in the Observatory should not be interpreted as endorsement, approval, certification or regulatory validation of any provider, product, organisation or implementation.

Have an AI use case that should be part of the industry picture?
