About

Matthew Gamser has 40+ years of experience in international enterprise development, local economic development, and finance. Dr. Gamser has 30+ years of experience in senior management and governance of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. He has worked with commercial banks and non-bank financial institutions in developing sustainable financial services for SMEs and microenterprises. In his latest efforts, he created and grew the SME Finance Forum (on behalf of the G20 countries), into a global center for knowledge exchange, networking and public-private dialogue promoting small, medium and microenterprise access to finance.

In his 18.5 years at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) he participated in key task forces driving operations decentralization, and has helped bring the organization into new business areas, including mobile phone banking and other digital financial services. He has worked with large corporations to improve their contribution to local economic development.

He has worked for bilateral and multilateral aid agencies, including the U.S. Agency for International Development, U.K. Department for International Development (DFID), World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and U.N. agencies. He is internationally known for his work in SME development and finance, in public-private dialogue, and in the popular management of technological change. He has edited and authored several books and numerous journal articles. He holds A.B. and A.M. degrees from Harvard University, and M.Sc. and D.Phil. degrees from Sussex University (UK).
