Dr. György Matolcsy has been serving as the Governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank since March 4, 2013. He holds a university degree in economics and brings a comprehensive background in economic policy and development to his role. Born on July 18, 1955, in Budapest, Hungary, Dr. Matolcsy is married and a father of three children.His career includes significant contributions to Hungary’s economic landscape. From 2010 to 2013, he was the Minister for National Economy. Before that, from 2007 to 2010, he founded and led the Hungarian Economic Development Institute. Dr. Matolcsy also served as the Minister of Economic Affairs from 2000 to 2002 and was the author and head of the Széchenyi Plan, a major initiative aimed at revitalizing the Hungarian economy.Between 1995 and 2000, and again from 2002 to 2010, Dr. Matolcsy directed the Privatisation Research Institute and its successor, the Institute for Growth, focusing on economic reforms and privatization. Earlier, from 1991 to 1994, he represented the Hungarian government at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London, culminating in his role as a director of the bank in 1994. His extensive experience in both national and international economic roles underscores his profound influence on Hungary’s economic policies and development.
