Empowering Lloyds Bank’s workforce for the digital age in Finance
Background
Lloyds Bank is a British retail and commercial bank with branches across England and Wales. It has traditionally been considered one of the “Big Four” clearing banks and serves millions of UK customers with a presence in nearly every community.
Lloyds purpose is to help Britain prosper by operating as a responsible, sustainable and inclusive Group. The organisation’s approach to responsible business means that their people are equipped to make the right decisions, supported by the values-based culture. Lloyds embed responsible business in everything we do – from their policies, to their processes and training.
In this capacity, CFTE and lloyds have partnered to build a workforce that can adapt to the ever-changing world of digital finance.

The “Fintech Foundation Specialisation” was provided in order to showcase the important elements of Fintech and how they can be applied to various divisions of the bank.The Specialisation focuses on the key activities and considerations employees can make to pilot digital innovation within their own business functions to become a driver of digital transformation in the banking sector.
In addition, the “Artificial Intelligence in Finance Specialisation” allowed employees to learn to define common AI terminologies, spot potential business opportunities and discover what AI realistically can and cannot do. The Specialisation helped learners embrace and be part of the AI revolution in finance. Providing an overview of the potential and challenges of AI in Finance, through insights from Thought Leaders and multiples use cases in Finance.
Results
The programme enabled participants to learn FinTech and AI in Finance with CEOs and experts from leading financial institutions, helping to future-proof banking career.
In May 2020, CFTE and Lloyd’s co-organised a virtual graduation to celebrate the learning of the 42 learners in the markets team. During the ceremony, Philippe Gelis, CEO of Kantox, Tom Stoddart, Head of FX and eSales at Lloyds and Huy Nguyen Trieu, co-founder of CFTE, discussed the relationship between Fintech and traditional banks today during the ceremony. In addition, another cohort graduated in 2023 with a high satisfaction rate of the programme.
